Design is the art of combining aesthetics with functionality.
Painting patterns, some people may think, is what constitutes a carpet designer’s job. But there is so much more to it. The interaction of idea, material, colour, technique and usage has to fit perfectly if a good looking and high quality carpet is to become reality. Naturally creativity comes first, but this is always accompanied by optimal production and economic factors, as well as monitoring of social developments. With their knowhow the designer Petra Both is responsible for aesthetics and techniques. Her work is supported by Antje Reschwamm.Petra Both, carpet designer with passion, graduated as a master from art school focussed on sculpture in 1999. After advanced studies in graphic art and desktop publishing, Petra started her career as a designer for MAKALU DESIGN in 2003. Soon she became the chief designer for the Nepal and hand-tufted collection, and she even supervised the production of the MAKALU DESIGN in Nepal. In 2006 she won the International Carpet Design Award. The same year she became a member of the PAULIG design team when MAKALU was taken over by PAULIG.
